Description

In this lesson we're going to be reading about human pscyhology and rational thinking. Students will answer some questions before the reading because the reading refers to those questions. Then we'll discuss the reading and pictures given. Lastly we'll learn and practice psychology verbs.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about human pscyhology

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of psychology verbs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss answer the Quiz questions on page 150 as pairs.

Pre-Reading/Listening (7-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

We look at the pictures and the title of the text to discuss what the reading might be about. We then read the introduction to see if we're correct.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss read for the main idea and match the pitures to the headings. Then Ss explain the connection between the paragraphs and the pictures.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss read frıo detail and answer the True - False questions (part C)

Post-Reading/Listening (45-50 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss are given some time to think and give examples from their lives on the phenomena the text talks about. Then we discuss it together. In the 3rd lesson we continue with psyhology verbs and do Vocabulary Section Parts A, B and C. If we have spare time, we talk about psychology and answer questions like "Are you interested in human pschology?", "What comes to your mind when you hear the word pscyhology?", "What are some reasons why people visit psychologists/therapists?", "What is reverse psychology?" etc.
