Description

In this lesson we'll be listening to an audio and then focusing on first conditional. The lesson starts with a short discussion on SS study habits. ,Then we do the listening. After the listening there's controlled practice on first conditional.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of the first conditional in the context of study habits

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about study habits

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss answer questions about their study habits: "How often do you study English?" and "How do you study?"

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss listen to multiple speakers talk about their study habits. Some sentences the speaker use are in first conditional. While listening for a second time Ss are asked to pay more attention to these conditional sentences.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

We check the text of the lsitening and underline the conditional sentences

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

To clarify the meaning and the context of first conditional, we create some scenarios and make some sentences together. (Here I might have to use Turkish to make students understand the context better.)

Semi-Controlled Practice (13-15 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss are given a worsheet of pictures to match and make first conditional sentences in pairs.
