Main Aims

  • At the end of this lesson, students will have practiced reading for main idea,gist and writer's opinion in the context of immersive theatre

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will be able to learn the related vocabulary and practice speaking about theatres

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students are shown a warm up PPT to start a whole class discussion about theatre and plays.

Pre-Reading (15-20 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible/ Activating the schemata

T distributes the hand-outs and Ss try to predict the content looking at the visuals and the title on the book and the questions prepared by the teacher. Ss answer them in pairs. And Class feedback is given by T. The questions are as follows; 1- What do you think is the text going to be about? a) Recommendations based on immersive theatre b) Introducing immersive theatre c) The history of immersive theatre 2- What kind of text do you think is it? a) a news article b) an essay c)an article 3- Why do you think the writer has written this text? a) for persuation b) for giving recommandation c) for entertainment T asks some questions to the class orally about the pictures on the book to activate their background knowledge and engage them. 1- What do you see in the first photo? Have you ever seen these masks and costumes before? Why do you think theatre actors wear these masks and costumes? 2- What can be the differences between usual theatre and the ones in the photos?

Pre-teaching Vocabulary (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with some blocking vocabulary

T tells that they are going to read an article about the best and the worst sides of immersive theatre. But before starting to read they need some words to learn to understand the text. First, T asks Ss to read the target words and their definitions on the book and then shares the link of the quizizz where they can practice the words. https://quizizz.com/admin/quiz/6289cb7c140075001e4c042f Then, T revise "ch" sounds and asks students do the exercises A and B on page 101.

While-Reading (15-20 minutes) • Providing students with gist and finding writer's opinion

Ss read the article and answer both the main ideas and detailed questions on the book individually and then share their answers in their groups. Feedback is given on the screen by the teacher

Post-Reading/Listening (20-25 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T tells that they are going to watch a video about immersive theatre experince and they need to keep up with the best immersive theatre idea as a group. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FIiekz5BYo Discussion as follows; Story: Will you use an existing story or create your own? Location: Where will it take place? How could you make use of the location? Interactivity: How will the actors interact with the audience? The best idea will be chosen by the class.
