Elementary level

Description

In this lesson, the students will learn about time and daily routine. We will start with (PTV) the pre-teaching vocab. Followed by a "what's the time?" drilling exercise. Then paired activity breakout rooms to practise the drill. Followed by a listening exercise about time. In the second part of the lesson, we will focus on using realia to teach vocab about daily routine. Followed by a controlled speaking exercise referencing daily routine. Finally, students will do a free practise exercise relating to the daily routines.

Materials

Abc Grammer communication "What's the time?"

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a "conversation" in the context of "time"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about "what's the time?" in the context of time

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Start by asking students a riddle about time. Discuss today's lesson about time.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Start off by showing (PTV) pre-teaching vocabulary. Followed by a "what's the time?" drilling exercise. Lastly, doing a listening exercise about time.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Focus on using realia to teach vocab about daily routine. Vocab is: get dressed, have a shower, get up, have breakfast, go to work, and wake up.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Controlled speaking exercise referencing daily routine. Students will describe the actions of Vicky (woman in the illustration) in her daily morning routine. Make sure the students are using third person and singular 's'. Ex. She wakes up at 7:00. Followed up by a free practice exercise in relation to their personal daily morning routine. Ask them if they do their routines in the same order as the illustration. Pair them up in breakout rooms. and have them have a free discussion.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
