Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of an IELTS Task two Essay in the context of Traffic

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Solution to a problem in the context of Traffic
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Discussion in the context of Writing structure and evaluating the text

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- HO1, which is task 2 writing, is displayed for students, and they are asked to read the task. Afterward, students are paired up and asked some questions about the task before brainstorming ideas for or against it. - Ss listen to the recording and decide whether the ideas presented are for and against the suggestion of the task.

Exposure (10-15 minutes) • To provide a model of introduction production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

- Students, individually, read the six sample introductions on HO2 and decide which ones are appropriate. - Divide the students into three groups and ask them to compare their answers and explain why they agree or disagree with the introductions. - Discuss students' ideas about the best option for introduction of the task

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-Give Ss HO3 on Linking words and phrases [1] and set the task. In this task, Ss quickly match the linking words with their function. - Ask them to check in pairs and after they finish ask them to come to the board and write their answers on the board giving you a quick way to provide the feedbak. - Give Ss HO4 and set the task. - SS check-in pairs and ask them to come to the board. Give them the feedback

Productive Task(s) (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Display the prompt, HO5, and ask students to write their introduction using the sample and the language they have practiced. - Pair check if there were enough time. - Ask them to finish the writing and send you the whole essay as homework.
