Main Aims

  • To provide review of the second conditional in the context of experience.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide deduction listening practice using an audio in the context of preference of students and what they would do if they were to win a million dollars

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students with the topic.

To begin the lesson the teacher will introduce the topic by asking the students a question, this question will be the main focus of this first stage, focus will be on this because the student's answers determine the final freer practice and what they will be discussing.

Gist (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through an audio

For this stage of the lesson the teacher will provide an audio for the students to listen to and create a title for a movie, meaning the students will listen to the audio and will be asked to come up with and interesting movie name, one that they would go and watch. After doing this, the teacher will take time and nominating students to ask them for their movie names.

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language along with still staying on track with the topic

For this highlighting stage the teacher will have the students complete a fill in the blank activity, for this the teacher has taken certain phrases and sentences connected to the topic and of course the target language, this activity will be completed individually and then the answers will be discussed in the main group, alongside the teacher providing an answer key.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

For this stage of the class, the teacher will take the time and clarify the target language, in this case it will be on the second conditional, the teacher will tae a couple minutes to explain main form, meaning and pronunciation of the grammar at hand. While doing this the teacher will ask if there are any questions left for the students and if everything is clear to move onto the stage.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

For this stage of controlled practice the teacher will provide a controlled activity, this meaning that the activity will have the target language and will be again of completing the sentences, for this the students will have 4 mins to complete it.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

For this final stage of activities in the class, this will consist of a speaking activity. This will include target language practice, while this is happening the teacher will be going in and out of the breakout rooms catching errors and applauding correct use.

Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide the students a chance to correct their errors.

To finalize the class, the teacher will ask the students if certain phrases are correct or incorrect, the teacher will just provide some guidence but the students will be doing the error correction.
