Procedure (30-42 minutes)
• T greets their students by asking them how they are doing? • T will set the context by showing students some pictures related to holiday activities and asking them what activities they can see there. • T will elicit some responses and then will ask students some questions related to enjoyable holidays. Questions: A) What are some common/popular places people visit when they go on holiday? B) Why do people choose those places? (Give reasons) • T will give students some thinking time before they answer the questions. • T will nominate a couple of students and praise them for their active participation.
• The teacher will ask students to read an anecdote. • Students will be given one to two minutes to skim the text and come up with a title(Gist task) • After that, students will check their titles in groups and then they will share them with the whole class. (Open class feedback)
• The teacher will show the dialogue again and will highlight some expressions that can be used in the productive task. • The teacher will focus on covering pronunciation so that students can articulate the phrases properly as well as use them in the production stage accurately Meaning: The teacher will simply ask: Are you familiar with all the expressions/phrases? Form: Since the main focus is on fluency, the teacher will not cover "form". Pronunciation: The teacher will do some choral and individual drilling. In case students struggle to pronounce certain words, the teacher will use the back chaining technique. The teacher will read the sentences aloud and will ask students to identify the word stress. The teacher will also teach connected speech(Catenation).
-The teacher will set up the speaking task. -Students will be asked to think of a holiday they enjoyed and give details about it! -In order to check that students have understood the instructions, the teacher will use instruction checking questions. A) Teacher: How much time do you have? Student: We have two minutes to organize our ideas. B) Are you going to work individually or in groups? Student: We are going to work in groups - After that, the teacher will give students two minutes so that they can prepare and organize their ideas. This will give them the confidence to carry out the speaking task. - The teacher will send students to the break out rooms so that they can share their ideas with their partners. - While the students are taking part in the activity, the teacher will be taking notes of potential errors students may make. - After that, the teacher will ask students to report back on what they discussed with their partners.
• T copy-pastes the phrases collected during monitoring and asks the SS to improve/correct those phrases. •T will use delayed feedback so that students can speak without being interrupted. • The teacher will give students some seconds to look at the sentences and identify the errors. •The teacher will nominate some students randomly and get feedback from the students. • If there is some time left, the teacher will wrap up the class with an exit ticket. • Students will have the chance to reflect upon their learning. • Students will have to read the reflective questions and choose 1. Reflective questions: 1) What did I learn today? 2) What was your favourite part of the lesson? 3) What can I do today to become a better student? • Teacher will do this activity as a whole group. (This activity is helpful since the teacher will be able to gather their students’ answers and take better teaching decisions in the upcoming lessons.
