Description

In this lesson, Ss will discuss places we have in Turkey. They will also discuss tourism in our country. Before reading the article about touristic places in London, Ss will check the vocabulary, after that Ss will read the text and answer the questions. During the next step Ss will check their answers in pairs and discuss their own opinions on the topic. As a post-reading task Ss will have a talk about tourism in Istanbul.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about a tourist in London

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide new vocabulary in the context of the tourist in London

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will be given a matching activity about Istanbul's famous places and their pictures. As two groups they will do matching activity who finishes early will be the winner.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In pairs or WC Ss discuss the words ,visit, high, interesting, popular. Teacher will drill some of them. Ss will be asked questions like is there any place to visit in Istanbul?Or what is there next to your house??for ex. there is a pharmacy next to my apartment...

While-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

T tells the Ss that they are going to read an article about London and asks them in pairs to decide and underline which of the sentences are explaining why they are famous.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss will talk about our Top 5 places to visit in Istanbul and why.
