Procedure (35-8 minutes)
Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students
1. What does the proverb "When in Rome do as the Romans do" mean? 2. In pairs, Discuss whether you agree or disagree with that proverb. 3. Share your answers with the class.
Controlled Practice (10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
1. Read the words in the box. 2. Compare each of them (except religion) between China and a western country. 3. Share your answers with the class.
Semi-Controlled Practice (10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice
1. In pairs, discuss the question of what happens when different cultures meet? Think of some positive examples. 2. Share your answers with the class.
Free Practice (10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
1. In pairs, discuss what do you know about these festivals? 2. Conduct a little research if needed. 3. Share your answers with the class.
