Description

This is a grammar lesson whose intention is to provide students with oportunities to learn and practice present simple positive and question forms.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of simple present postive and wh questions in the context of routine.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation with positive statements and wh questions in simple present in the context of routine.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • to set lesson context and engage students

I will ask students to look at pictures of Tv talk shows, i will ask them two questions: What kind of shows are these? Talk shows - What happens on these Tv shows? They interview actors and movie stars. Then I will ask them to think what questions they would ask their favorite actor and to write two. After this I will do OCFB.

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • to provide context to the target language through a text or situation

I will ask the students to guess the time that actors do these things: 1- get up 2- have breakfast 3-start work 4- have lunch Following that, they will read a conversation between an interviewer and an actor to check and compare answer in pairs in breakout rooms, and I will do OCFB with whole class.

Highlighting (2 minutes) • to make students focus on the target language

I will ask Ss to look at the example sentence.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify meaning, form and pronunciation of thr target language.

Meaning: I will ask students two CCQs: Is this an every day activity? yes Is the verb in the presetn or the past? In the present Form: I will ask the studens to fill in the gap with the correct verb to complete three sentences: You GET UP very early. / We START work at about 7:00./ They HAVE an hour for lunch. Pronunciation: I will read sentences out loud. I will ask students to identify which word I am stressing. Students will do drilling of the sentences. Meaning: I will ask three CCQs for students to identify detailed information in simple present Wh questions, and auxiliary DO for subjects I, you, we and they. Form: I will ask students to match names of parts of wh questions in a chart wh words/ auxiliary/subject/ verb/ other words When do you have lunch? Pronunciation: I will ask students to listen to pronunciation of reduction of DO YOU /djə/ in questions. I will model one example and ask Ss to drill three questions. Where do you live? / What do you do?/ When do you start work?

Controlled practice (8-10 minutes) • to concept check and prepare Ss for more meaningful practice.

I will ask Ss to complete an interview by filling in the gaps with the correct verbs, I will also ask them to arrange words correctly to form wh questions. I will ask the Ss to pair check in breakout rooms before OCFB.

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language.

I will ask Ss to make 6 questions with words and phrases from a box about their routines on weekdays and/ or at the weekend to practice asking and answering questions in pairs in breakout rooms. I provide two example questions: What time do you go to bed on weekdays? / When do you get up at the weekend? DEC I will ask students to focus on five statements to determine if they are correct or incorrect and correct the latter. 1- When are you start work or classes? / When do you start work or classes? 2- I has lunch at home. / I have lunch at home. 3- what time do you finish work or classes? 4- I go to bed at 10:30 p.m. 5- when you have breakfast? / When do you have breakfast?
