In this lesson, the students will practice using and, but, because in various contexts.

Main Aims

To provide clarification and practice of conjunctions in various contexts.

Subsidiary Aims

To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conjunctions in various contexts.

Procedure (30-8 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Ask the students to write down all conjunctions they know. 2. Ask the students to make sentences using the conjunctions they wrote. 3. Share your sentences with the class.

Test #1 (10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

1. Read the sentences in the box. 2. Complete the sentences using and, but, and because. 3. Compare your answers with your partner. 4. Share your answers with the class.

Teach (5 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

At this stage, I'll teach the proper usage of the three conjunctions.

Test #2 (10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

1. Write your sentences using and, but and because. 2. Compare your sentences with a partner. 3. Share your sentences with the class.

Free Practice/Homework • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1. Write a sentence that can be used as a prompt, e.g., I had a dog. ( The students will write the sentence in class before they leave). 2. Expand the sentence using and, but and because.
