Description

In this lesson, the students will learn the use of the Present Perfect simple and continuous in the context of success.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The Teacher writes the statement on the board ( What's the best way to be successful in learning English?). The students discuss the question in pairs, then join other pairs and share their ideas.T. elicits the students' ideas and sees if everyone agrees.

Speaking (5-7 minutes) • To actualize the previous knowledge

1.T.set exercise 1 p. 80. The task is to think of and write down three successful persons, then using questions from ex 1a p. 80, tell about these persons. 2. T. asks the pairs discuss the quotes from exercise 1b p.80, to find out if they agree ar disagree. 3. T.asks to have a look at the three photos from ex. 1c p.80 to remember their names and what they are famous for.

Pre- Listening (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T. draws the Ss attention to the headline of the article (ex 2A, p.80) and asks them to decide in pairs what it is devoted to. Ss look at the headlines and the beginning of the article and think over the ideas. In the feedback T elicited their ideas and writes 3 ideas on the board. Before the first listening, the Ss have to find out which idea is closer to the content.

Listening (5-7 minutes) • To give them practise in listening

The T. sets the task to listen and fill in the article review (ex.2B) with the missed words. The Ss check their answers in pairs

After Listening (6-8 minutes) • To check the understanding

The teacher asks to do true/ false exercise to check the understanding ex. 3a p.81. T. sets after listening discussion 'Do you agree that if you practise something enough, you can become world-class at it, or do you think you need a natural talent for it?'

Control (6-8 minutes) • To control the understanding

Ss listen one more time to control themselves. They discuss the results with their peers. T sets after listening tasks to discuss in pairs (ex.3C p.80) 'Do you agree that if you practise something enough you can become world-class at it, or do you think you need a natural talent for it?'

Vocabulary Presentation (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with vocabulary presentation and first practice.

T. sets ex 4a, Ss work in pairs. After the control T sets ex 4B.

Vocabulary Practice (10-10 minutes) • To provide the practice in the use of vocabulary

T sets ex. 4a,b,c p.81, Ss work in pairs. Control as a whole class

Speaking (10-10 minutes) • To provide them speaking practice using the new vocabulary

T sets ex 5 p.81. Ss work in group of 3. Each student has to think over and speak on one statement.

Grammar Presentation (7-10 minutes) • To present and practise the target grammar

T. sets the task to read the sentences from ex. 6 p.82, underline and circle the tences and match them with the rule.

Grammar Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide the practise in the use of new grammar

T. sets the taks Ex. 7and ex. 8. Both of them are done in pairs and controlled as a whole class.

Hometask (5-5 minutes) • To practise the material outside the classroom

T. sets homework Workbook ex. 1-7 p. 46-47
