Procedure (36-27 minutes)
T asks Ss, Have you ever heard about social codes?. If students say yes T proceeds with the lesson. if they say no, T gives a really brief explanation. "Social codes are the acceptable behaviour upon our society." T asks give Ss some questions for them to speak iside breakout rooms in pairs. Do you know any English people? If so, where and how did you meet them? What are they like? Which four adjectives describe English people the best? Ss will have about 2 minutes to share Ideas
T provides Ss with an article which they have to read. After reading T asks the Ss Does the writer think According to the Author, English people are unfriendly? Why?/ Why not? T asks Ss to reflect upon the questions and give their opinion.
For MPF to be done on time it is going to be a whole class activity. It will help students to speak more and it will be interactive, even though it will lack as a hands on activity for the students to move sentences or phrases around. It will be more similar to a question and answer. Phrase which are going to be used: -Talking to strangers. -standing at a bus stop. -was laughing. - Spend years traveling. T will check on meaning, by asking "What do you understand by this phrases? (students give their meaning by using synonyms or an actual dictionary meaning)" " Is this phrase fixed? Yes"students CCQs 1. Have you ever met that people before? 2.- Are you completely comfortable? 3.- Is she not laughing anymore, when did it happened? 4.- Does the person has experience traveling? T asks for form, 1- verb (ing)+ prep+ noun 2- Verb (ing)+ prep+ det+ noun 3- verb+verb "how is this called? Phrasal verb" "In which tense is it writt en? Past continuous" 4- Verb+ noun+ verb(Ing) T checks on pronunciation, by askiing for stress words and intonation (which words sound more and if the voice rises or lowers)
T separates Ss in breakout rooms, where they have to talk about different tips they will give to foreigners who are visiting the place they live. Ss will have a list of situations to use as reference, for each one the situations they will give a suggestion. list: • behaviour on public transport • saying please and thank you • starting conversations • talking to strangers • talking loudly in public • subjects you shouldn't talk about • things that might cause offence • general behaviour and good manners E.g. Queueing: While queueing, you do not leave the line unless you ask politely to the person behind you to save your spot for a good reason. Also the time that you leave has to be brief. T starts monitoring and looking for errors for future DEC
T asks Ss. where your tips similar? What are your opinions on the tips? what is the best tip you can give? T analyzes the different opinion the Ss gave and starts error correction.
