Unit 3: The family and entertainment level

In this lesson, students learn language related to visiting places, do some virtual trips to different countries and speak about their favorite place.

Main Aims

  • To provide speaking practice using a text about places to go and visit in the context of family and entertainment

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation about places to visit in the context of family and entertainment
  • To provide clarification of present progressive tense in the context of family and entertainment

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T presents the slides and asks the question: What country would you like to visit today? -Learners explore the options given on the slides, but also propose some other countries. -T asks learners to take notes on architecture, attraction, restaurants, with simple sentences such as: I like the architecture in China. -Learners visit virtually three of the places chosen and prepare notes. -Learners share their ideas to the whole class.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

-T presents a text model production of what students are expected to speak about -Learners practice pronunciation and analyze words from previous activities -T conducts OCFB

Useful Language (15-20 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-Learners watch the video tutorial and read the text -Learners explore more vocabulary, choose three places and get ready to talk about them in pairs. -T monitors and gives feedback -Learners explain

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-T records language produced in the activity -Learners discuss in pairs language to correct, reformulate and are praised for good language used -T gives feedback
