To introduce and provide review and practice of future perfect and future continuous in the context of environmental awareness.

To provide detailed reading practice using a text about predictions in the context of environmental issues.
Procedure (37-45 minutes)
Commence PP. Get people in pairs to discuss questions on PP. 2 minutes. (wind turbines, an electric car, solar panels, a snow cannon to create artificial snow when not enough natural snow has fallen, wind cowls, which provide ventilation into homes whiles minimizing heat loss)
Display HO and describe: SS will read some predictions about the next 20 years (introducing FP & FC TL) > SS: Read predictions. Take 5 minutes > Write your answers to Q 1-3 on the HO. > And make your own prediction. > After complete, compare with your partner ICQ: Are you going to write down your answers? And then what will you do? Get SS to read predictions again. > Ask which two they'd most like to come true. > Discuss with a partner (a different one this time) > Take just a few minutes.
Display HO with highlighted words. > This reading has some words highlighted. They will either refer to: a) an action or situation that will be finished in the future > ask SS for an example sentence...or (e.g. the cost of food in Ankara will have risen because of the cost of transport) or b) an action or situation which will be in progress in the future > ask SS for an example sentence...or (e.g. Turkey will be using 100% renewable energy in 20 years) > Ask if anyone knows what these are called? > Work in pairs to decide which highlighted words are which. > Take 5 or 6 minutes to complete FB > check answers with another group of pairs and discuss if you got any wrong
Display HO. > Two predictions are provided with questions to complete about them. > Working in (different) pairs, SS to answer questions about each one. > 5 or 6 minutes to complete. FB > S-S pairs to work with another S-S pair to discuss and compare answers. > Get SS to check answers on the wall and return to WC with any mistakes. So we have gone over how to talk about things that will have been completed and things that will be in progress at points of times in the future. Now it's over to you: Imagine that money was no barrier. The Turkish Government provided unlimited money to spend on technology that's good for the environment. In groups discuss: 1. What technology would you have installed in your homes by next month? 2. What technology will you be using in your homes in a year's time? 3. What transport would everyone be using in Turkey in 5 years time? > Have SS work together to brainstorm ideas and write them down. > Take 6 or 7 minutes to write down your answers. > Count out 4 groups and arrange them into group work positions. ICQs > are you going to write down your answers? > how long will you have to finish? > FB > Have groups swap their written work for checking. Time permitting, bring class back together to share ideas with WC.
