To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about items in the context of shoppping language
Procedure (38-49 minutes)
Students will look at some pictures of items that are found in a newsagent and match the pictures with the right definition.
Students will listen to two people who are in a newsagent and will tick the things they buy. They will have pictures of various items. Check answers in pairs. Feedback.
Students will listen to the recording again and put what the shop assistant says in the correct order. Check answers in pairs. Whole class feedback. Students put the sentences in the right order on the board.
Students will be given sentences where they have to fill the gap. The sentences are: I'll have a .......................................... Have you got a......................................? Can I have ....................................? How much are..................................? How much is ................................? Students will check their answers will their partner and practice saying the sentences.
Students will listen to the recording again and then practice reading the sentences. Students will then practice the conversation by taking the turn to be the shop assistant and the customer and the other way around.
Students will be given two different cards. One person will be the shop assistant and the other person will be the customer. They will practice the role play and then perform in front of the class.
