To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of elephants and wild life. Also fluency speaking practice in lexis pronunciation.
Procedure (28-45 minutes)
Present students with pictures of multiple animals and lightly discuss what their favorite animal is and why.
Cover lexis with images of their definitions and ask students if they can identify the word for each. After one try, uncover the words. afterwards, quickly go over pronunciation by modeling and having students repeat. Lexis: Land, Destroy, Corridor
Show students the statements they will be answering before listening to the first part of the interview audio. 1. African elephants are bigger/smaller than Asian elephants. 2. There are more African/Asian elephants than African/Asian elephants.
Before listening to the complete interview, show students the statements they will be answering in Google forms after listening for detail, and explain they will only be answering True or False. 1. The forests where elephants live are getting smaller. 2. Elephants walk along the same paths as their grandparents. 3. They never go into villages on the path. 4. They sometimes destroy people's homes. 5. There aren't any villages in an 'elephant corridor'. 6. The people in the villages don't want to move.
After listening to the audio, have students circle the correct answer to complete each sentence correctly. Once they've finished, reveal the answer key and have them make corrections if necessary.
After listening, have students check the answers in pairs in BORs.
Have students compile a list of five things they can do to help the environment and wild animals. Afterwards, place the students in BORs and have them compare their answers and choose the 5 best options between both lists. Monitor students to identify errors for feedback.
If any errors were identified during monitoring, address them during this time.
