Main Aims

  • To provide deduction reading practice using a text about Machines behaving badly in the context of Daily life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Daily life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1- ask them “Do you guys love technology?” Wait for their answers have a small discussion

Pre-Reading/Listening (10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

2- then ask “ so if you love technology, do you like when people keep looking at their phones and not talk to any one else?” 3- then ask, so “what do you call that type of person?” Elicit it with showing pictures on the screen. Is being antisocial rude? No Personalisation: Do you have antisocial friends? Are they nice or hard to deal with?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Reading task 1 (Ex4a) 1-Refer students to the title of the text on the screen 2- ccq “technophobe” “Do you think the writer feels positively or negatively about technology?” 3-distribute a paper with the headings and Get students to read it, give them time. 4- distribute a paper with the paragraph and ask them to read it,Emphasize that they only need to skim it to match the headings. 5-Ccq: Are you going to read in detail? No So You are going to read quickly? Yes 6-ask Students to work individually before comparing their answers. 7- show answer key on the screen.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-0 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Reading task 2 (Ex5) 1- ask Students to work in pairs to read and answer the questions. ANSWERS a-Learning how to use it takes up all the time the computer saves. b- Because spare parts are no longer manufactured. C- Because very few people understand how their machines work, so aren't in a position to question when they are passed to different departments. d- There are a lot of channels but the programme quality is worse - there isn't one single progr amme worth watching. E-They are developing larger thumbs, not leaming how to spell properly, and would prefer to text thán talk. 2- Check answers with the whole class.

Post-Reading/Listening (8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

(Ex7b) 1-Ask students to think of some way in which technology drives you mad Or make a Reason why you love technology, then discus individually with them. 2- ask them to write down seven reasons they love or hate technology 3- after they are done ask them to discuss in groups
