Procedure (41-53 minutes)
Ss watch a short video about an ad that shows the differences between life in the past and present. After watching the video, T asks students questions like: were people healthier in the past? are people more active now? Then T asks ss about the main differences between past and present shown in the video in terms of tranportation and food habits
Ss are reminded of the twins Megan and Charlotte and are asked to listen to audio (1.45) to identify the speaker. T asks the students some questons about the twins relationship in the past and present.
T asksSsquestions about the audio that correspond to the target language i.e. (used to) Ex: What did Megan say about their clothes at school? They used to swap clothes and confuse teachers T writes the sentences on the board to start eliciting the rule
TheThe teacher proceeds to check comprehension and asks the following concept checking questions: Did the twins swap clothes as teenager ? Are they still swapping clothes? Then the teacher elicits the rule of used to and form Used to + infinitive T drills the pronunciaion of used to
Ss work in pairs and do exercise 1-b page 42 Ss and T check together
Ss will write some sentences about their lives using the target language. T will show examples about her. Then, Ss will write two sentences on a pice of paper and thn throw it in the middle of the class. Each student then will come to pick a paper and read the sentences and try to guess who wrote them
Ss are asked to discuss and compare two lifestyles or events (present and past) in groups. T devides Ss to 5 groups. T sticks pictures and questions on the walls for dtudents to have a talk about these pictures and questions. Ex: Compare weddings 50 years ago and now, Compare your life before and after the pandemic
