Description

In this lesson, the students will learn about the gradable and ungradable adverbs and their usage.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of gradable and ungradable adverbs in the context of small dialogue.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a small dialogue in multiple contexts.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Show the students a list of adjectives. 2. Ask them to think of other adjectives that describe the pictures better/in more powerful ways. 3. Ask the students to write them in the classroom notebook.

Useful Language (10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. In pairs, match one or two words from the first list with the second list. 2. Think of the difference between the two lists. 3. Create two columns and arrange the words. 4. Share/compare your answers.

Productive Task(s) (20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. Read the provided example of short dialogue. 2. In pairs, write similar short dialogues with the words from the matching activity. 3. In pairs, read out some of your dialogues.

Feedback and Error Correction (5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Provide feedback on accuracy and fluency.

Homework • To provide extra practice of the target language.

1. Chose five adjectives of your own choice. 2. Write five ungradable adjectives for them. 3. Use them in five short dialogues.
