Description

The students will learn how to convert some adjectives to adverbs in this lesson.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of adverbs in multiple contexts.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of replacing adjectives with adverbs in multiple contexts.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. Show the students a group of pictures of people doing some actions. 2. Ask the students to describe the pictures and how the action is done. For example, Is he a good driver? 3. The students discuss answers in pairs.

Useful Language (10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

1. We will write as many adjectives as we can with the students. 2. Explain what an adverb is. 2. After understanding the meaning of an adverb, we will convert all the adjectives to adverbs.

Productive Task(s) (20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive language/skills.

1. In pairs, listen/read the following sentences. Henry's a dangerous driver. Tim's a heavy smoker. Kathy's a beautiful dancer. Carry's a noisy eater. Ken's an excellent writer. Rebecca's a quick worker. 2. For each one, write another sentence replacing the adjective + noun with a verb + adverb. 3. In group talk, talk about how you drive, dance, cook, etc.

Feedback and Error Correction (5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Provide feedback on accuracy and Fluency.

Homework • To provide extra practice of the target language.

Change the adjective + noun to verb + adverb in the following sentences: 1. Debby's a bad cook. 2. Sarah's a slow reader. 3. Jessica's a quiet speaker. 4. Lucy's a nice singer.
