Procedure (37-49 minutes)
In open group, Ss will see the image of "retro" technology appliances and be asked to identify which ones are familiar and which ones have changed the most. This will expose Ss to the context of evolving technology (what it was used for then and how it is used now).
Ss will be given the opportunity to read a short narrative text about someone's first color television. Ss will be introduced to the term, ago, when measuring time in the past. In pair work, Ss will work together on the detailed task with the Google form provided.
Ss will be re-introduced to the blue and pink text in the passage. As WB, T will elicit the form of can vs could in present vs past context. Ss will practice fill in the blank with can and could examples.
Ss will be given the opportunity to work through the MFPA independently with a guided discovery worksheet before reviewing answers with peers and later WB. T will model each instruction with ICQs "are we submitting after completion? No" "Do we review with a partner before we submit? Yes." T will organize BORs while Ss work independently for 4 minutes. After, Ss will check each other's answer in pair work for 3 minutes and in OCFB , view answer key and T will ask CCQs for each section.
Ss will be given the opportunity to work in small groups and choose the correct form of can or could relative to the text explanation of features of mobile phones in the past and what they can do today. T will use thinking bubble icon to demonstrate CCQs for Ss to remember while reading. WB will listen and correct according to played audio transcript of correct answers.
Ss will have to opportunity to practice in small group dialogue talking about what their TV/ Phone/ Computer can/can't do. Ss will share in whole group what they learned about each other's devices.
