Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of speaking for fluency in describing feelings

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of feelings and emotions

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the topic.

T shows a slide with 9 images of people expressing different feelings/emotions. T asks SS how they think the people on the pictures feel. T shows example: How do they feel? Image 1: Lisa is surprised because she found a Valentine’s day gift on her desk. T instructs SS: In pairs, describe how the people on the images feel. Name them and justify your answer. SS work in breakout rooms. T nominates 2 SS to share their ideas with the whole class. T leads OCFB

Useful Language (3-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks.

T shows Useful Language slide. Ss work as a whole class. Ss match the sentence halves. SS check meaning, form, and pronunciation by reading aloud.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

T shows the slide with the questions. T instructs SS on the exercise: Ss work in a Breakout Room to listen and match the speakers to the questions on a Google Form. T nominates two students to report answers. T leads OCFB

Productive Task (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T displays the questions one more time and instructs ss to interview each other. Ss respond using the target language. T will change partners so that everyone can report similarities and differences found in their interview.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T praises effective use of the language. T shows errors and elicits corrections from students. T checks pronunciation mistakes.
