Procedure (36-46 minutes)
The teacher shows a two-minute video about the trailer of the movie which is mentioned in the reading text that students has been working and starts a discussion about the similarities and differences between the true story which is on the text and the movie trailer based on the true story.
The teacher asks ss to read second paragraph in the reading text on p. 33 and answer the following questions: 1. What happened to Philippe? 2. How did Philippe and Abdel meet? As the target langauge is narrative tenses, ss are expected to summarise the events. When the ss find the answers individually, they compare their answers and summary with their pairs and after that the T receives whole class feedback.
Students are asked to go through the questions in 4a and try to choose the correct answers and then check from the article (in pairs). After that the T shows the asnwer key
The teacher asks some CCQ's (4B) to clarify the meaning and form of the target structure. They analyse positive / negative and question forms by eliciting them from the ss (4C).
The students are then directed to page 137 to go through exercises A and B. The students then discuss their answers in pairs. Board race (ss run to the board to write the answers) can be done to make it fun. Meanwhile, T ask some CCQ's (in the form of a yes/no question) to consolidate the meaning and the form.
Ss are divided into groups and each group receives the same plot summary (only the introduction part) of a movie based on a true story. They are asked to complete the plot summary in their own words and post it on Padlet so that everyone see and comment on the plots. In the end, ss vote for the best plot summary.
