They will learn their pronunciation and stress. They will listen to the pronunciations of verb and noun forms of three new words. They will repeat those. They will have a pronunciation practice, then they will listen and check. They will do a speaking practice using the target language. Main Aims

  • To provide introduction and practice of new lexis in the context of Adjectives and Feelings.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency in speaking practice in the context of Adjectives and Feelings

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T shows SS a picture of a girl and guy from story - T elicits adjectives from SS to describe emotional states of individuals in picture. Suggested answers: sad, unhappy, happy, excited,... Have learners talk about (in pairs) 1 or 2 questions related to the topic of the lesson (text). T will ask SS "do you remember a time you were excited? or sad?" T asks SS to write 3 sentences about it. T will put SS in pair groups to discuss.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To introduce new lexis via controlled practice

1. Use/Adapt the text and design a task that exposes learners to the TL. 2. Learners read and answer individually. 3. Learners compare answers in pairs, then OCFB - T tells SS to match the lexis with definitions - SS match the verbs with meanings Read and listen to Part 1 of a short story. Read and answer individually. Match adjectives to sentences. We will compare answers in pairs. Gist reading/ listening - Present the target language (according to the rules you want to cover in the lesson) in a short text, so the students can see the target language in context. Set a short gist task, so students get a general understanding of the context first. Let students read individually, check in pairs and conduct class feedback. see jamboard

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- T asks SS CCQs to make the meanings more clear - SS answer CCQs - T drills the lexis items from SS - SS repeat - T elicits stress from SS in each lexis item Clarification of MFP - During class feedback, you should check the students’ understanding of the meaning of the target language (using Concept Checking Questions), elicit the form, as well as drill the pronunciation (chorally and individually, if necessary) to ensure the students know how to say the structures and any contractions. see jamboard

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To practice pronunciation and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T asks SS to read out loud the sentences to check pronunciation accuracy of target language - T plays the audio 2.51 from the coursebook so that they can check their answers

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- T asks SS to match the verbs with correct endings to make them nouns - SS do the task

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language as well as speaking fluency

- T asks SS to think of three things that have increased or decreased in their country recently - T puts SS in pairs and tells them to compare their ideas and discuss - SS compare their ideas and discuss
