Description

In this lesson Ss will learn about what to say when you are surprised and when you are not. The lesson starts with a discussion about how people react to surprises. Ss will be exposed to the TL by listening to an audio and answering some questions while they listen to the audio. We will practice the MFPA all together, followed by a fill the blanks activity, Ss will hear another short audio to check their answers. Finally free practice by talking to their partners about their day.

  • To provide practice of language used for saying you are surprised or you are not surprised.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will share the way I react to surprising news with students. I will briefly talk about the possible reactions people have when they are surprised , 2min. SS will share the way they react to surprising news in the BOR for 3 min.

Exposure (8-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss will be exposed to the TL by listening to an audio about a wife that shares her day with her husband when he comes home. This couple use the TL in a real life situation. I will give stuents a hand out, Ss will be marking with an X what Judy talks about to her husband (Word Document)while they listen to the audio. Ss will compare their answers after I share answer key via chat box.

Clarification (8-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will cover the MFP of the TL, on my slides we will talk about the expressions in the text that show you are/not surprised. We will go through the slides while I clarify the meaning by asking CCQs: Is the speaker surprised or annoyed? Yes Does he think what he is seeing or hearing is true? No Does he think what he is seeing or hearing is true or reasonable? No Does he think what he is seeing or hearing is true? No Does he think what he is hearing is serious? No Is the speaker extremely surprised? Yes Is he angry? Yes Is he confused? yes Is the speaker surprised? No Does she think what she hears sounds logical or believable? yes Does he understand the other person's actions, opinion, or feelings? Yes Was he expecting what happened? Yes Did she already know the answer or had a similar experience? Yes Did the she already had a picture of what might happened? Yes Does the speaker know the answer? Yes I will model TL,choral drill.

Controlled Practice (5-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will share a second hand out(google form) and have students fill in the blanks, Ss will check their answers on their own while listening to Track 37. Please check your answers while you listen to the following audio. FB

Free Practice (8-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will have an opportnity to use the TL by sharing their day with a partner in BOR. Please share how your day went with your partner. Model with a student, BOR. OCFB
