Description

In this lesson, students will learn new vocabulary through a reading text on "Holidays". The shape of this lesson is text based guided discovery.

Materials

Abc Visual
Abc Worksheet (WS)
Abc Reading Text

Main Aims

  • By the end of lesson, Students will have practiced and learnt some vocabulary in the context of holidays.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of holiday words in the context of travel and family

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show a picture of holiday season and discuss ST favorite holidays.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Provide the text to the ST. Then give comprehension question to answers (Gist/Detailed).

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T asks ST questions to elicit the TL.

Clarification (7-9 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will elicit meaning from ST through contextualization from the reading text. Will use CCQ. ST will highlight/underline the TL in the reading text.

Controlled Practice (8-9 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice.

- T will give out the WS; ST are required to match the pictures to the words. - Feedback class and praising.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-9 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students are required to solve the second part of the WS: fill in the blanks. - Feedback as pairs (self-discovery) and then feedback as a whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students are required to discuss their dream holiday. - Feedback and praising.
