Procedure (40-45 minutes)
Greet students (Ss) to the class. Ensure Ss are sitting in the correct colour and shape group. - 'small talk' with Ss. Encourage Ss to ask each other, for example, 'What did you do on the weekend?', 'How are you?', and 'What did you have for breakfast?'
Welcome Ss to the new term. - ALT will hand out conversation stamp sheets to Ss. - T draws attention to the IWB. On the IWB will be a basic aim of the term and what the end of term project will be. -After this, Ss will be given a short worksheet. Ss will then consider their own learning aims. Ss will keep the worksheets, and at the end of the term will check to see if they have achieved their aims. -T will highlight how Google classroom will be used. T will encourage Ss to participate for extra participation.
- On the IWB show the picture from P.10 of the coursebook. Elicit from Ss what they see, and what the boy is doing, under the picture will be a number of questions. Encourage Ss to discuss the questions with their partner. After watching check to see if the Ss predictions were correct. - Draw Ss attention to the IWB. T will show some pictures of TV shows. Elicit from Ss what type of shows they are.
Around the room will be a number of coloured pictures of different TV shows. In groups, Ss will be given some TV shows vocabulary. In groups, Ss will look at the words, walk around the room, and match the word with the picture. T will demonstrate the first one, to give an indication of what is expected. After this Ss will check answers on the IWB.
Ss will open their coursebook to P.11. Ss will look at the pictures of TV shows (exercise 1), and match the pictures with the words. Ss will also circle the words that aren't in the pictures. Ss will do this by themselves, and then once finished check answers with their partner. T will draw Ss attention to the IWB. On each slide, there will be a picture, alongside a sentence containing the target vocabulary. T will use a range of drilling techniques to help Ss practice the vocabulary and sentences. T will give ss 'hot' feedback, making sure to correct any spoken mistakes. Ss will complete exercise 2 with their partners. Check answers as a class.
This activity is focused on exercise 6 (use it). Each Ss will complete the sentences so they are true for them. T will show an example of the completed sentences on the IWB. Ss must not write their name on the paper, and they should keep their sentences secret from their partner. T will briefly check that Ss have completed the sentences. Ss will then scrunch their papers into a snowball shape. Ss will then throw the paper to the front of the class. Ss will stand up and then pick a random 'snowball'. Ss will open the paper, and they will then try to find the original owner by asking some simple questions. The questions will be on the IWB so Ss can use it as a reference.
