Main Aims

The main aim is to develop students' ability to talk about past habits using 'used to' in the context of childhood. Students will read a text about past habits in the childhood and will answer 'used to' questions. This lesson plan follows a text based guided discovery method of grammar teaching and it starts with visuals that creates the target language.
Subsidiary Aims

Speaking :Students practice speaking by providing some examples of past habits in their childhood using 'used to'.
Procedure (45-59 minutes)
Teacher shows the class a picture of her when she was a child. To prepare the students to the target language, the teacher asks the students to describe the picture.
Teacher asks her students to read a text about 'Life Changes' to expose them to the target language.
Teacher asks her students to underline the phrase used to in each sentence. Teacher elicits from students the meaning and form.
The teacher clarifies the meaning and form with examples from the text 'Life Changes" on the board.
Teachers asks the students to answer the comprehension questions, complete sentences using 'used to' and choose the correct answer, in groups.
Teacher shows the students some pictures and ask them to write sentences about the pictures using 'used to' in each sentence. Students work in groups.
Teacher divides the class into three groups and asks them to write a short story about their past habits using 'used to' in each sentences. Students tell each other their stories.
