Description

In this lesson, students learn about the problem solving around and in the house using the vocabulary of household, pictures and the reading tips of unit 7. Using the correct vocabulary forms and grammar for the best way to solve problems. Finally speaking and writing solutions using shorter sentences in groups and pairs activities.

Main Aims

  • * Students will be able to practice vocabulary of household with solving problems to be done.
  • * Students will be able to match the vocabulary words properly with the correct verbs.
  • * Students will be able to learn about the theme of the unit regarding solving problems around the house or about different repair problems and services that people use in everyday life.
  • * Students will be able to improve their reading skill by the teaching reading skills in steps.
  • * Students will be able to share opinions about the reading texts and connect that to their own daily life routine.
  • * Students will be able to socialize with classmates by suggestions and discussions in pairs / group work.

Subsidiary Aims

  • * Students will be able to process a proposal writing on how to solve a problem.
  • * Students will be able to improve their speaking skills in class discussions by practicing the pronunciation of the vocabulary in the context using examples; cut your own hair / decorate your home / do your own repairs around the house / fix your computer / put oil in your car.

Procedure

• Greetings
(0-1 minutes) • Warm - up / " Word Game Time " online game.

* Mention the name of the game.

* Clarify the purpose of the game.

* Explain the rules of the game.

* Inform Ss about the procedures of the game regarding;

(0-3 minutes)

1) How to join the game ? by the attached link.

2) How many Ss will be joining the game ? all the class.

3) How long will it take you to play the game ? 3 minutes.

4) What will happen after scoring by end of the game ? I'll end the game for all.

5) What will happen after I end the game ? All will be back to the our usual zoom meeting to start our session of today.

* Check with Ss about the procedure steps mentioned above by ICQs.

* Play the game/ end it / back to the session.

* Motivate Ss.

Lead in (0-1 minutes) • Objectives of Unit 7

* Inform the Ss only about the topic of the unit.

* Inform the Ss about the parts of lessons & skills of the unit.

* Ask the Ss to check the six pictures at the beginning of the unit.

* Ask the Ss to drop in the chat box one word of the six places in the pictures. ( individual activity ).

* Check with the Ss before starting the activity about the mentioned steps by ICQs.

* Ask the Ss the ( 5 ) questions about the six pictures.

Pre - reading (0-3 minutes) • prediction

* Let the Ss look at the four pictures on page; 66

* Ask the Ss to work in pairs to answer the following ( 5 ) questions about the four pictures on page; 66. There is one different question. ( Do you do ….. yourself or not ? ) Instead of asking the question about the topic of the lesson ?

* The topic of the lesson is ; Getting things done. Ask individual Ss to each read one of the questions aloud. Then ask, "Where do you go when you need a haircut? Choose one of the places shown in the pictures." Call on a S to answer [When you need a haircut, you go to a hair salon (or a barbershop).] • Say, "Match each of the questions to one of the pictures. Then compare your answers in pairs." Check answers with the class: Have individual Ss each read an answer [When you need a haircut, you go to a hair salon (or a barbershop).; When you need new glasses, you go to an optometrist.; When you need some photocopies, you go to a copy shop.; When there's a big stain on your jacket, you go to a dry cleaner's.; When you need a memory card for your camera, you go to a camera store.; When your car or motorcycle breaks down, you go to a garage.]* * Preview and do the task Ask, "Which of these things do you do yourself?" Have a S read the five items aloud. Using a show of hands, find out how many Ss do each thing. Ask, "What other jobs do you do?" Have Ss call out answers. Assign a S to write them on the board. .

(0-6 minutes) • Contextualization
• Vocabulary

* List of words: 1) Decorate 2) Repair 3) Cut 4) Fix 5) Put

* Put each target word ( highlighted ) of the vocabulary list in a sentence.

* Let the Ss guess the form of the target word ( decorate - verb ).

* Eliciting questions to the Ss about each word mentioned above in the list to recheck the definition.

The questions are:

1) Is it something beautiful or ugly ? Beautiful.

2) Does it happen in a certain occasion ? Yes.

3) What did the town use to decorate ? Christmas lights.

4) Have you ever decorated your place for a certain occasion ? Due to the Ss' answer.

CCQs to Ss to recheck the information been taught about the target language words.

* Ask the Ss to guess the definition of the word. The definition; " make (something) look more attractive by adding extra items or images to it."

* Show the definition to Ss.

• Pronunciation of vocabulary words

* Listen to the attached link about British / American pronunciation of words.

* Get use to the shape of symbols for words phonics.

* Let the Ss guess other forms of the words of the vocabulary list. For example ( decorate ); base form; decorate / v2; decorated / v3; decorated / s,es,ies; decorates / ing form ; decorating.

* Let the Ss guess other synonyms of each word of the vocabulary list. For example ( decorate ); adorn / decorate / beautify.

CCQs to recheck with the Ss about the part of vocabulary; definition / pronunciation / forms / synonyms.

* All previous vocabulary teaching steps will be done for all the vocabulary list of words ( the 5 words ) been mentioned above.

* Appraise Ss.

Pre - reading (0-3 minutes) • gist task

* Ask the Ss to read the four questions on the slide before getting the reading text.

* Ask the Ss to work in pairs; read questions / find answers / write answers on a paper.

ICQs about the steps Ss will do for the gist reading stage.

• Gist questions

How many pictures are there ? Mention the issue of each picture ? What’s the title of the slide ? What are the subtitles in the slide ?

While - reading (0-4 minutes) • skim task

* Inform the Ss that they will check the reading for the second time AFTER they read the second slide of questions.

* Ask the Ss to read the four questions on the slide before getting the reading text.

* Ask the Ss to work in pairs; read questions / find answers / write answers on a paper.

ICQs about the steps Ss will do for the skim reading stage.

* Skim questions

Mention one question that is in bold. Mention names of people ? Mention names of countries ? Are these things been done individually or by help of others ?

While - reading (0-5 minutes) • * Scan task

* Inform the Ss that they will check the reading for the third time AFTER they read the third slide of questions for more details

* Ask the Ss to read the four questions on the slide before getting the reading text.

* Ask the Ss to work in pairs; read questions / find answers / write answers on a paper.

ICQs about the steps Ss will do for the gist reading stage.

• Scan questions

Does it look good when you cut your hair by yourself ? Who can give him a help in fixing his car? What’s the job of his sister ? Was it cheaper when she fixes the dishwasher herself ?

Vocabulary practice • Classwork
(0-4 minutes) • CW - Activity ( A & C )

* Ask the Ss to read the vocabulary words in the box. ( 1A ) p; 66.

* Ask the Ss to choose which they do out of the available list. Think about more out of the list.

* Make a class list . ( individual activity ).

* Ask the Ss to complete ( 1C ) in pairs.

(0-3 minutes) • Extra activity

* Ask the Ss work in pairs to create ( 4 ) sentences of their own , using the vocabulary been taught in this lesson of the unit and share it in the whiteboard of the zoom meeting.

* Check with the Ss before starting the activity about the mentioned steps by ICQs.

Post - reading (0-5 minutes) • Speaking practice

Activity SB /P; 73 Ex. 2-A ( Group work ).

• Speaking practice in groups

* Each group is with 4 students. * Read / discuss / agree on a solution. * Choose a team speaker. * The speaker will introduce the solution of the group to the class.

* Check with the Ss before starting the activity about the mentioned steps by ICQs.

• Recap

* Check with the Ss about the lesson as general regarding; ideas / vocabulary / definitions / problems and solutions to solve these problems by CCQs.

Recap (0-4 minutes) • CCQs questions

What are the things to get done better by others’ help ? Which one is the most expensive one ? Which problem ,in your opinion, is the most important ? Why ? Have you ever been in one of the mentioned problems ?

* Appraise Ss

(0-1 minutes) • HW - writing skill

* Inform the Ss about the assigned. * Page and exercise numbers. * Explain steps required in doing the homework.

(0-1 minutes)

* Check with Ss about the assigned homework by ICQs.

(0-1 minutes) • Checking if there are any other questions.

* If there are questions, the Ss can unmute themselves after raising hands OR drop the questions in the chat box.
