Procedure (38-51 minutes)
Students watch the video of an April Fool's prank and T asks a few questions about the video to check understanding (What happened? What did she say she would name the baby?)
-Students are presented with the questions accompanying the text and read to themselves silently (4 minutes) -Students are put in B/O rooms and answer the questions with a partner (3 minutes) -OCFB (2 minutes)
Students are put in B/O Rooms and use slides 4-6 on the Jamboard to sort connecting words into "Reasons" and "Contrasts" T reviews for OCFB
T presents the words "since", "due to", "however", and "despite" with an example sentence and provides the parts of speech and definition. T then exemplifies the intonation pattern of these sentences and students choral drill.
Students use slides 15-17 to complete a gap-fill exercise using a word bank of the connecting words we practiced, in which they will have to remember not only the meaning of these words but also the part of speech. Students work with a small group in B/O rooms T reviews during OCFB
Student's are given the prompt "Describe a time you pulled a prank or played a trick on someone. What did you do? What did the other person believe? What was the truth? Why was it funny?". T provides demo and students are tasked with talking in B/O rooms with a partner or group about their anecdotes. Under the last two questions, a few connecting words are provided to encourage their use.
T writes a few mistakes from the freer practice where students failed to use connecting words or used them incorrectly
