Description

Students learn about Telling Stories through a Text Based lesson, which is set on two texts about movies. The lesson starts with a discussion about movies. This is followed by a pre-teaching stage about blocking vocabulary. This is followed by a Gist Reading Task, a Language Focus Task, a Controlled Practice and a Freer Practice.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students are shown two pictures taken from the coursebook. T asks: Do you like watching movies? Do you know these movies? Have you watched them?

Pre-Teach / Model (10-15 minutes) • To pre-teach Blocking Vocabulary

Word # 1 - Ordinary T follows ECDW stages for Elicitation T asks SS - Do you know a synonym for the word normal? Word #2 - Gangster T follows ECDW stages for Elicitation T shows SS a cartoon style image of a gangster Word #3 Realize T follows ECDW stages for Elicitation T shows SS an image of a person with a lightning bulb

Fluency (12-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T divides students in groups A and B. T tells students they need to read and remember the story. T tells group A to read the text titled "The Mask" T tells group B to read the text titled "My Bestfriend's Wedding" T tells SS to read the texts 2 times, making sure they understand it. T tells SS to practise narrating the story together. T tells SS they can check part of the story if the don't remember it. T tells SS they have 8 minutes to complete the task. T asks ICQs: how many times are you reading the text? (2) What are you doing after you've read the text? (narrating the story) Can you check the text? (Yes) How many minutes do you have? (8) T sends SS to BO rooms. SS go back to Main Room. T tells SS they will have to tell the story to a student from the other group.

Feedback (5-8 minutes) • To provide feedback

T writes down correct and incorrect sentences heard in BO rooms and makes SS correct them.
