Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of the past simple and the present perfect tenses in the context of a famous living person

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will reveal a paragraph about a famous person on the WB without showing his name and the students will read it and try to know who is he.

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will ask sts some questions to focus on the target language (past simple, present perfect) and prepare them for the next stage.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In pairs, I will get sts to write a paragraph about a famous living person without mentioning the name. They will try to use the two tenses correctly. When sts have finished, I will get them to post their writing on the wall. Then, sts have to walk around and around and guess who the paragraphs are about. .

Feedback and Error Correction (10-12 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

For the FB, I will write on the WB two sentences, one wiil be for an interesting thing I have done and one will be for a thing I haven't done but would like to do. On four pieces of paper sts have to write two interesting things they have done in their lives and two things they haven't done .In groups of six, sts will put all their sentences in a bag and take turns to choose a sentence and read it to the group. The other sts guess who wrote it.Then a student in each group takes turns to tell the group when his two interesting things happened and ask follow up questions to find out more information.i.e. What did you do there? I monitor to correct errors if needed.
