Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of places.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about places in the context of holiday places

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show ss picture of many places in Egypt, and ask them which one they like to go and why. Ss can discuss together in the breakout rooms in 2 minutes.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Pre teach vocabulary. Show ss pictures of (Mosque, vendor, scenes, bridge, go snorkeling, a coral reef). Ex3 Ask ss to read the two texts about Sharm el Sheik and Alexandria. Give them 2 minutes to read. Ask them to answer Ex3. to read the sentences and tell which sentence is false. Provide an answer key.

Useful Language (6-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ask ss to answer exercise 4a about the rules of the comparative adjectives. Provide Answers. Write the sentence: Sharm El Sheik's hotter than Alexandria. Highlight the stress. (Weak sounds: 's and than). Prepare ss for the productive task and ask them to answer exercise 2c which is to find two things that they can do in the two cities: Alex and Sharm. Send them to breakout rooms for 3 minutes.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ask ss to choose two holiday places in Egypt. Talk about one of them and tell your friend why you chose this place. Divide ss into pairs and give them 15 minutes to discuss that in the breakout rooms. Check each room and write notes about ss sentences. Demo an example: I like to visit Aswan and Hurghada.For me, Aswan is cheaper than Hurghada. Aswan is hotter than Hurghada..etc

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Check ss content and language by writing some problems i heard during monitoring in the breakout rooms.
