At this lesson, the students will speak and briefly introduce the topic they researched in their paper.

Materials

Abc The students research papers

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in an introduction/presentation and a discussion in the context of research paper/academic paper..

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of various grammatical structures in the context of research paper/academic paper.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. The students will take a minute to read their paper briefly (individually). 2. In pairs, students will discuss the content of their paper with each other. 3. The student will take a final look at their paper before discussing it with me.

Exposure (10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1. At this stage, I'll introduce the students to some grammatical and spelling mistakes they need to avoid when writing an academic paper. 2. The students will take a minute to see if they have made some of these mistakes. They will highlight it. 3. The students will then share some of their mistakes with me, fixing them together.

Highlighting (5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1. At this stage, the students will go through their papers again after fixing some of their mistakes. 2. The students will give me feedback on how the fixed mistakes made their paper sound more professional and academic (we will engage in a brief discussion).

Presentation, discussion and feedback (15-20 minutes) • To provide a detailed and a constructive feedback on the final product

1. The student will briefly introduce their paper and the ideas included. 2. The student will have a brief discussion with me or any of the other students about their topic and why they chose it. 3. I will give feedback on accuracy, fluency, and APA at the end of the discussion.

Feedback (5 minutes) • To provide a general feedback to all the students

I'll provide general feedback to all the students on the common errors and mistakes at this stage.
