Procedure (28-38 minutes)
1. I will ask my students to think about what they know about China a. language b. population c. culture d. history
Read a short text and just identify the main idea. I will ask the students to read and tell me what it is about (context). 1. Where is the author presently? 2. Has the author been here before?
Read the text again and identify the target language - present perfect simple vs present perfect continuous. I will ask students to answer questions on a google form individually first, then we will review.
MEANING I will ask students some CCQ's for students to identify meaning. 1. I have been to China twice. 2. I have been coming to China for years. Focused on activity or result? Describes how many or how long? When are these actions referring to? FORM What is the structure of the grammar point? I will ask my students to identify the different components in the structure. PRONUNCIATION a. Sentence stress I will be reading the sentences out loud as examples (Clarify meaning, form and pronunciation)
Quickly testing form. 10 sentences for controlled practice. I will ask students to complete the sentences using the correct form of the verb. (handout) I will ask students to compare answers, then provide feedback.
Conversation oriented activities - I will ask students to come up with an example of each verb form of their own using their hobbies and experiences, and check with their partner: Have both a present perfect simple and present perfect continuous example. I will monitor / write potential mistakes for DEC.
