To provide gist reading and listening practice using a text about traveling.
Procedure (42-57 minutes)
Show the Ss a picture of two young children. Then nominate them to ask questions like, what are their names? and where are they from?.
The t shows the Ss some pictures for the words( land at/ take off/ book a ticket) and elicits the meaning from them. The T asks some CCQs to check their understanding. CCQs: land at / take off: 1- Does the plane go up or down? book a ticket: 1- can you travel without booking a ticket? 2- Do we book before or after we travel?
the T asks the Ss to read the text and answer the question" do you think they were in Sydney?" The T asks them whether the text was in the present, future, or past.
The T asks the Ss to underline all the verbs in the past tense.
Ex2.a. The T asks the Ss to fill in the gaps and elicits the form them. The t demonstrate s the first one with the Ss and in pairs, they continue the rest. The T then shows the answer key and makes sure they all have the correct answers. The t highlights the pronunciation (Did you), and the intonation.
Ex.C 5.6. The t plays the track and asks the ss "where were they?".
Ex2.c. The T shows how to make a question in the past simple using (were/was/did). The t demonstrates and elicits the first 4 questions from the Ss. The T asks the ss to continue the rest. The T shows the answer key. In open pairs, the Ss ask each other the questions. Then in closed pairs, the ss ask and answer.
Ex3.b (find someone who). The T demonstrates the first sentence and elicits the questions from the Ss (wh /yes, no). The T then drills the question using back chaining. The T asks the Ss to answer the rest in groups. The T shows the answer key. After the groups, the T provides both content and linguistic FB.
