Description

In this lesson, students will practice telling time as well as discuss their daily routines. They will have a chance to discuss the order of these routines as well as the times they do these routines using the present simple tense. This will be a controlled speaking practice. They will also have a chance to practice listening for specific information.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, ss will have practiced saying daily routines using the present simple tense, practiced Wh questions in the context of describing daily routines.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice listening for specific information.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will be using a clock and some pictures to set the context. We will practice telling time and clarify any issues with 'a quarter to' and 'a quarter past'. -Start with showing a clock and ask ss what it is. -Ask ss if they use a clock everyday -Show picture of waking up and getting up - ask What is he doing? What time does he get up? -Show picture of having breakfast- ask What is he doing? What time does he have breakfast?

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Exercise 1A Ask ss What time does class start? What time does it finish? Ask some of the working ss What time does work start? What time does it finish? Ask ss What time do you wake up? what time do you have coffee or breakfast? Exercise 1C Demo a few questions from picture A. Get ss in group A to take a picture. Then get ss from group B to take a picture of theirs. Ss practice in pairs asking about the different times in breakout rooms. Exercise 1D Listen to the times and have ss write them down. Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Exercise 2A This is Vicky's morning routine, the things she does everyday. Match the woman's daily routine as a class. Demo how to do task Allow ss to work in pairs on task Provide picture

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Exercise 2B demo (she wakes up at 7 o'clock. She gets up at 7:15, etc.. Exercise 2C demo carefully on how to relate the woman's daily routines to the Ss lives. Allow Ss to work in pairs in breakout rooms. take notes of any mistakes relating to telling time and daily routines.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Write 3-4 mistakes I noticed on the board. ask ss to correct the sentence/phrase and write the correct answer for them to see.
