To provide review of the months of the year and ordinal numbers for referring to dates in the context of travel plans
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of travel plans and deadlines for arrangements.
Procedure (37-45 minutes)
T will show the PP slide 1 of the airplane and the question, "How long do you plan for a holiday?" Ss will discuss for a minute and then share each others' answers.
In the presentation stage, I will start with a simple story from my life using all 12 months and the ordinal numbers (1st-12th). I will elicit the month vocab words as I am telling the story of planning for our trip to Turkey.
T will drill the 12 months and ordinal numbers 1st-12th with the visual on the screen. T will drill in chorus, girls, boys, and individually. Special attention will be given to the -th sound as it is difficult for most Turkish speakers.
The first practice is on HO1. T will name Ss Winter, Summer, Winter, Summer, Winter, Summer, and have the Summers sit together and the winters sit together. Ss will complete the HO solo and peer check. Then, they will find the other season to check. Their gapfill handouts will be mirrored of the other, so that as they check in pairs (one summer, one winter), they have the complete AK (for questions of spelling, etc). OC FB.
The second practice will be OC with 5 questions on the w/b. The 5th question will have 5 days that the 5 students will answer (one each). This last question exposes the Ss to perhaps harder ordinal numbers (13, 16, 20, 21, 31) so that they know the form numbers take after 12.
In the Production stage, students in two groups will create an imaginary holiday plan and the dates steps must occur. The two groups will share plans. T will monitor and listen for errors and give necessary delayed FB. Instructions: Chested HO2: Get in your Summer or Winter group. You and 2 friends are going to go on holiday. Think of plans for the trip. 1. Decide on a day for the trip. 2. Think of what to do before the trip, and when it must be done. For example, Say the trip will start January 4th. I need to buy tickets my 11th of November. Work as a group first.
