Procedure (36-39 minutes)
1.Write a list of words on the board and ask the students to tell if they related to the classroom or not. Do the first 2 words for them, and then give them 1 minute to discuss the rest in pairs. Elicit answers. 2. Write some phrases on the left side of the board and the words (student - teacher) on the right. Ask the students to come to the board one after another and match the phrases with the student and the teacher.
Ask the students to look at the picture, and ask them who the teacher is and who the students are. Ask them about the names.
Introduce the exercise by explaining that each student of the three has a question about something. Play the recording, and then elicit answers. Introduce the next exercise by asking the students to tick the phrases they hear (give an example), and play the recording again. Ask the students to check with each other. Play the 2nd recording and ask the students to repeat.
Write down the phrases in exercise 11 on the board. Practice will vary because not all phrases are flexible for a situation change. Tow phrases will have extension activities: 1. what's ............ in English. Give the students vocabulary cards with a Turkish word on one side and its English equivalent on the other. Give an example and ask the students to work in pairs and ask each other the question under practice. If the teacher feels he/she has plenty of time. activity can go on by switching the cards and ask another partner. 2. How do you spell .........? Give the students cards with a word on one side and its spelling on the other. Give an example and ask the students to use the question under practice to ask their partners about the spelling of their words.
Ask the students to fill in the gaps. They check answers in pairs. The teacher monitor and checks answers. The students work in pairs to practice the dialogues taking turns to once a student and once a teacher.
