Subsidiary Aims

To provide scan reading practice using a text about lucky and unlucky people in the context of an optimist, attitude, pessimist, cheer up
Procedure (26-39 minutes)
Students will watch a video and observe the opposing luck. I will ask them, did you face situations like those in the video before? what were they?
First activity: male students will be in one group to say which player is lucky/unlucky and why while female students will have 2 actresses in their group to discuss which one is lucky/unlucky and why. Second activity: students will work in 2 groups to discuss the following questions: -have you ever won anything? if so, what did you win? -do you think people are born lucky? why/why not?
Students are going to read for details about lucky and unlucky people. They are going to guess the meaning of words in pink.
Students will answer the following questions: Choose: 1-Richard Wiseman studies luck / is a very lucky person. 2-He thinks / doesn`t think that some people are born lucky. 3-His research shows that people can / can`t learn to be lucky. Answer theses questions: 1-Did Maureen Wilcox win the lottery? 2-How long has Wiseman been studying luck? 3-Do lucky people have more new experiences than unlucky people? 4-What was the aim of Dr Wiseman`s luck school? 5-How many people were luckier after going to luck school?
