Description

The lesson will start with an introduction of Teacherman's house. There are several rooms of which the names will be elicited and written on the right side of the board. Then ss will see some pictures on the powerpoint and will answer some true or false questions as exposure for prepositions, such as in, on, next to. The lexical set of rooms will be highlighted and elicited. Ss will do a picture dictation in which they need to use the TL. This will be modelled first on the WB. Ss will design their own house. Ss will produce 6-7 sentences about their dream house. At the end of the lesson the students will come forward as a group and present their dream house to the other groups.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greetings Do you think Teacherman lives on the street or in a house, or in a big house

Review (3-5 minutes) • To review vocabulary from a previous lesson

Ss will do a short matching exercise and check their answers in pairs

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To introduce the TL of prepositions and implement the vocabulary

I will show some pictures on the projector of Teacherman's house. I will elicit from the children the vocab and the prepositions. Elicit SENTENCES from them: how many rooms are there in Teacherman's house? etc.

Controlled reading practice (5-6 minutes) • To practice vocabulary and prepositions in a controlled context

Ss will do a True or False exercise in pairs and they check in groups of 4. Pyramiding.

Pre-speaking Activity (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model to practice target productive skills

Model some sentences on the board. Elicit, elicit, elicit. For instance. My house has got a football court in the garden. There is a swimming pool between the sea and the house. Students write at least 6 sentences about their dream house in groups of 3 Early finishers can draw their own house.

Production Task (6-8 minutes) • To practice speaking in a freer context

Ss will come forward with their group and all members of the group will tell the other groups at least 2 sentences. Check with the other groups if they have understood.

Freer practice #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide practice for speaking

One student is nominated to come forward. The other students take turns and make a sentence, for instance. There is a garden. The house has got a swimming pool.

Feedback and Error Correction (2-3 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language
