Pre-Intermediate level
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide listening practice using audio files about famous homes in the context of a conversation
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide clarification on vocabulary in the context of famous homes
Procedure (32-43 minutes)
Ask Ss about the three buildings in the pictures. Ask them about who lived there and where they can be found.
Bring pictures of the noun objects for students to guess, then drill them on form and pronunciation. For the adjective 'haunted,' elicit from them a description of what ghosts do to people or places
Tell students to remember their answers to the lead-in task. Inform them they will listen to the conversation for the answers, reminding them to pay attention to the different houses. Make sure T asks Ss ICQ's to clarify meaning. When they are done, have them pair check for a few minutes, then have Ss identify each home.
Have students read the instructions quietly for 30 seconds. When they're done, tell them to take out a pen and paper, then listen to the dialogue again. After the audio ends, answer the questions quietly for a few minutes. Ask them ICQ's to clarify instructions. After the assignment, have them pair check for a few minutes, then have a feedback session to go over answers.
Have Ss think of a famous or important home in their hometown. Tell them to think about it for one minute, then mingle with the other Ss to find out about different famous homes, where they are, and who lived/lives there. T will demo the lesson with an example from his hometown, then ask ICQ's to clarify instructions. After the exercise T will ask Ss about a famous place they learned about
