To provide specific information listening practice using a text about of travel experiences.
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
Teacher will present a picture of a traveller's bad experience during a flight and will start asking Ss questions: Do you think he is enjoying the flight? Describe his feelings, Describe the man sitting infront of him in one word, What about the other passengers,do you think they are enjoying their flight? How would you feel if you were in that traveller's place and have you ever had such a bad experience? Teacher will elicit Ss answers and let them expect what the topic they are going to listen to is about.(bad travelling experiences)
Teacher will divide Ss into groups and ask them to read the text for gist on page 28 and and answer the questions, then scan the same text to justify their answers , then the teacher will elicit their answers and give his feedback. Teacher will ask Ss to work in groups and try to figure out the meanings of the phrases and words in exercises 2 and 4 as they have already been covered before in the previous lessons , then check their answers by looking up for these words/phrases at the word list at the back of their books.
Teacher will ask Ss to read the statements A-H , listen to words and phrases that mean the same as this will help match each speaker to what they said, them play the recording and Ss individually listen and complete the task (2 -page 28) Teacher will elicit Ss' answers.
Teacher will ask Ss to read statements from 1-10 and draw their attention that they will hear the story of a man called Toby who got caught in a tsaunami, then teacher will play the recording and Ss work individually and complete the task (4-page 28) . Teacher will check their answers.
Teacher will ask Ss to narrate a travel experience of their own to the class.(speaking activity), then he will ask Ss to work in pairs and write a summary of Toby's experience as if it was a news article , then present it to the whole class. Teacher ,meanwhile , will monitor and scaffold Ss.
