To provide Ss with the ability narrate an event from their own point of view.

To provide Ss with activities that enable them to personalize the topic through an imaginary activity.

To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about space accidents and problems.

To enhance their writing skills and autonomy through answering questions using their own words and according to their understanding.

To consolidate new vocabulary through synonymous words/phrases.
Procedure (45-55 minutes)
Teacher will ask Ss to watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3J1AO9z0tA and think of what they think the lesson will be about after dividing them into closed pairs. After watching the video Ss share their answers with the rest of the class.
Teacher will introduce key vocabulary from a text via ppt and practise new vocabulary in context ( meteor - lift-off - re-enter - manned - leaking - landing - carbon dioxide ) - Teacher will divide Ss into closed pairs and ask them to do the task in their books (p.22) , give them two minutes to finish the task , then elicit their answers .
Ss are asked to work in pairs and skim the text and say what they know about Apollo 13 and what sentences tell us about Apollo 13. Ask Ss to check their answers with other pairs , Teacher will only observe and interfere if there are any mistakes or they needed help.
Ss are divided into groups and asked to read the questions 1-5 , give them time to scan the text and choose the correct answers for the questions and to justify their choices with examples from the text. Teacher will elicit the answers of each group and share them with the rest of the class , then teacher will ask Ss work in groups and match the words in bold in the text with their synonyms (words /phrases ) in the list in exercise 5 page 23 , then to elicit which part of speech is each word/phrase.
Ss are asked to work individually and imagine that they were one of the scientists at Houston , and they are required to narrate the events from their own point of view , including these points while talking : , the superstition ,the problem and the success story. ( Give each student one minute to speak). Ss are asked to work individually and write few sentences using padlet describing how she/he would feel when the accident happened and how would he /she react imagining that he/she is one of the crew at Apollo 13 who returned safely back on Earth , then share their writings with the class.
