Procedure (42-48 minutes)
T will show a picture of Times Square, as well as a salesman. T will ask students to anticipate what the lesson will be about based on the previous pictures.
T will show students a written advertisement, and askk students to answer the following questions: "What is the purpose of this text?" "What tone is being expressed in the text?" "Is the writer appealing to reason or emotion? Students will discuss their answers in pairs. Ss will share their answers to the whole class.
T will ask students what phrases could be used to try to sell a product. T will use the phrases students say, and go over them with the whole class for Meaning and Form. T will add some functional language and go over them with the whole class for Meaning and Form.
T will go over some ideas for products to sell and ask students to brainstorm more products they can think of. T will write down the list of pproducts students come up with. T will ask students what they think some features of these products could be. T will ask students to choose a product for the activity T will ask students to write an ad for their chosen product. T will give students up to 18 minutes to finish their task.
T will give students a checklist to provide feedback on their partner's ad. T will send students into breakout rooms to discuss their texts. T will give Ss 5 minutes to discuss. T will nominate students to go over their checklist and share any aditional comments on their peer's work. T will go over DEC and give final thoughts on the task.
