Main Aims

  • To provide a platform for Ss to read and discuss an article on seven wonders of the world. And to develop skills in reading for main ideas and details.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice on the topic of world wonders in the context of seven natural wonders.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set the context about natural wonders, and to raise their interest in the text.

T asks Ss to watch a short video (about the world's natural wonders) and choose the best title from the given options. ICQ Afterward, they will discuss answers in groups. Finally, there will be WC feedback to finish this stage off. https://www.aparat.com/v/FL7SB

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To make it easy for the Ss to know the meaning of the words and make the text accessible.

T teaches the blocking vocabulary based on the (M.P.CCQ.F) method. Volcano Coast: Cornfield gorgeous Harbor (In my MT, I will teach only two of them to save time)

While-Reading (Gist reading) #1 (3-5 minutes) • To get familiar with the major themes of the reading, and to make the reading more manageable

T writes the question (Task A) on the board and asks Ss to take a look at the text and its pictures to answer the question. A. What do you think is the most amazing natural wonder in the world? (T explains that Ss shouldn't worry about understanding every word and they should read the text for the main idea.) ICQ Class feedback: T elicits the answers from the learners and then moves on to the next task.

While-Reading #2 (reading for specific information) (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

T asks Ss to read the article and answer task c of the lesson in the coursebook. (in MT, the T shares the Q as a presentation slide) T asks Ss to do exercise C of the lesson. Complete the sentences with the correct natural wonders. For all the exercises, T sets the task and has ICQs, then Ss peer check, and finishes the tasks with class feedback.

Post-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T asks Ss to rank the natural wonders from 1 (most amazing) to 7 (least amazing), then compare answers in pairs, and then in groups of 4, they should talk about the reasons for their ranking.

Error correction (1-2 minutes) • To attain conscious knowledge of the target language and in learning the language's rules.

During the activity, T takes note of some errors related to the lesson and, in the end, asks the Ss to come up with the correct sentences and writes them on the board or in the chatbox.
