Procedure (39-56 minutes)
Students will see a picture of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai and respond in general to the importance of tourism for countries.
Students will watch a video promoting tourism in Jamaica and comment on what activities they find interesting. This will expose students to what will be required for the upcoming speaking tasks whilst simultaneously doing a listening for gist activity.
Students will be presented with the first part of the Speaking task and will be asked to generate ideas in a whole-class discussion. This helps to prevent creative blockage so that students have several ideas to be able to carry out the upcoming speaking task effectively.
Students will be required to conduct a discussion/meeting in order to create a business plan for a new tour company. Students will be presented with vocabulary for managing a discussion in order to assist in organizing their ideas as a group in the productive task. The meaning and pronunciation will be reviewed.
Students will now conduct the meeting/discussion to set up a new tour company. Students will be given the task prompt with the points to include and will use the vocabulary learned to guide the discussion. The teacher will monitor the discussion and note down points for error correction. Remind students that the task is to practice speaking but they can make notes to present their ideas later.
The teacher will draw students' attention to any errors made during their "business meeting" and conduct DEC.
Students will now share their business plan ideas with the other groups and decide which plan sounds the most interesting. The teacher will monitor the interaction and makes notes on errors made.
The teacher will wrap up the lesson with students reporting on each other's business plans and conduct DEC.
