Description

In this lesson students will learn the different uses and rules of articles a, an, the, and no article. They will read a news article about a time capsule in Peru for specific information. Then they will cover MAFP and after that they will do controlled practice completing comments on a website using articles. Finally, for freer practice they will discuss in groups which articles they would put in a time capsule.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of articles in the context of objects in a time capsule

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about a time capsule in the context of objects and which articles to use with.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (0-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will share a slide and ask students to describe what they see. They will exchange ideas in pairs using private messages.

Exposure (0-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students will read a news article for specific information. They will check their answers in pair after reading.

Clarification (0-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

We will cover MAFP

Controlled Practice (0-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will read a website about time capsules and they will complete the blanks with articles

Free Practice (0-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will work in groups to decide which five things they would put in a time capsule.

Feedback and DEC (3 minutes) • to provide students with feedback

I will write some mistakes on the board and ask students to help me correct them.
