Description

In this lesson, students practice functional expressions for like and dislike through guided discovery based on a reading text and listening activities in the conetxt of their favourite book. This is followed by students talking about activities htey like or dislike. Finally there is Clarification where MFP is explained, a controlled activity is followed by a free practice where students use the TL.

Procedure

Lead in (3-5 minutes) • To engage learners and activate their previous knowledge of topic area

T introduces the lesson with the title: My Favourite Book. T explains what the topic is and asks Learners to think about the questions in the Lead-in slide. T invites learners to answer the questions in BR FEEDBACK T shares some personal relevant information about the questions to warm up the lesson introducing the TL INSTRUCTIONS Say: Today, we talk about our favourite books. Say: Think of these questions (read questions out loud) Say: Take a screenshot please and talk about this in BR. Feedback Say: Let me share about me (use like for all instances)

Text presentation (5-6 minutes) • To provide a text work for learners to notice the Target Language in context

-T introduces the activity and reads the title. -T reads the questions introducing some expressions of the TL so the students reflect on it. -T invites the students to watch the video about genres to have more context for the lesson. -T send Ss to BR to answer the questions FEEDBACK -T introduces the TL by asking Learners to recognize the type of function the lesson is about: LIkes and dislikes. INSTRUCTIONS Say: Now Let's talk about Genres. Say: Look at these questions, (READ the questions) Say: Now, let's watch the video about Genres and think of the questions we read. AFTER THE VIDEO Say: Take a screenshot, please Say: In BR discuss the questions with a friend FEEDBACK Say: welcome. back Ask: What are these expressions talking about Students should say: Likes and dislikes

Language Clarification (5-10 minutes) • To practice and clarify the MFPA of Expressions for Likes and dislikes

T introduces MPFA by scaffolding the TL T asks Learners to fill in the blanks with the missing words. T gives feedback with the right word T CCQ's to understand the TL T asks to classify the expressions into positive or negative for each expression INTRODUCTION Say: How can we express likes or dislikes Say: Fill the blanks with get, that, stand, what, fan, thing Explain, for each expression CCQ and classify into positive or negative.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide controlled practice about the topic of the lesson.

T asks the students to find out who likes the books mentioned on the slide. T clarifies who is each person to make the task easier T reads the books T plays the audio INSTRUCTIONS Say: talking about likes and dislikes, Let's find out what Amy Beth and Carl like or dislike. Explain Amy is taking a trip, Carl and Beth are suggesting books. Feedback Ask students to mention the answers

Freer Activity (8-10 minutes) • To practice the TL in a freer task

- T introduces the freer activity by asking the question: Movie or book? -T asks the students to reflect on the given question -T performs an Open class conversation about the question -T elicits several students to share their ideas. -T reminds them to use the expression of the Target Language by sharing some personal opinion first INSTRUCTIONS Say: Talking about books Ask: HAve you ever.....? Say: For example I am a big fan of....(share opinion) Say: What about you XXXXXX?

Feedback and DEC (3 minutes) • To correct some errors during class and consolidate the aim of the lesson

T collects information from BR during the task and writes it down to correct them during this stage. T focuses on the use of the expressions learned. T clarifies the difference between Favourite (England )and Favorite (USA)
